Final day of the EuroHockey club championship cup women 2014 and all teams came into action. Strange way of deciding who is Europe’s number one team in just one weekend with this knock-out system. Next year we will have the pool stages again and I personally think this is way better and fairer but everything has to make way for the world cup in June.
The first match of the final day was between Atasport and Railway Union HC. Railway Union HC was the better team on the pitch and won the game 2 - 5 (0-2). Atasport was very efficient and had 6 chances and scored 2 of them but it wasn't enough.
The second match of the final day was between Reading HC and Berliner HC. Reading had the better chances and won the match with 4-0 (2-0). Reading ended the tournament fifth and Berliner sixth.
Third match was between Uhlenhorster HC and Real Sociedad de futbal SAD. The teams were equal to each other but Real Sociedad was leading by 0-1 after 35 minutes after a beautiful goal by #7 Guarjardo. After 55 minutes #25 Hilmann equalled the score 1-1 and this was also the score after 70 minutes. Shoot outs (4-2) determined the winner Uhlenhorst HC. Congratulations with your third place!
The last match of the tournament was the final between Amsterdam H&BC and Hockeyclub ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Many spectators for this match came to the EHCCC. Hockeyclub ‘s-Hertogenbosch started better than Amsterdam H&BC and scored 2 goals. Amsterdam H&BC worked hard and equalled the score 2-2. Shoot outs were needed to determine the winner and it was a real final. Hockeyclub ‘s-Hertogenbosch failed to score and Amsterdam H&BC won the shoot outs with 3-0. Amsterdam H&BC is the winner of the EuroHockey club championship cup women 2014, congratulations!
This was my last blog for this EuroHockey club championship cup women 2014. It was a wonderful weekend and I would like to thank all people that made it possible. I hope we can organise this tournament again in the future and we hope everybody was satisfied with the organization.
When I wrote the recap of yesterday on Facebook one word was bothering me: Losers. Of course; in sports you have winners and losers but it isn’t the nicest thing to say. Fortunately, the losers of yesterday could become winners today. The two teams that won today are playing for the fifth and sixth place on Monday at 12.00. Oh and there is that word again, the losers or can I better say the teams that lost their matches today, play for the seventh and eighth place Monday at 9.30.
Two Dutch teams in action on the third day of the EuroHockey Club Championship Cup women 2014. I don’t know if everybody was still searching for eggs in their garden or had too much to eat from their eastern brunches but I expected more spectators for the matches today. Maybe everybody already thought that both Dutch teams would be in the final on Monday and are coming tomorrow to the EHCCC 2014. Lets hope so.
What a wonderful start of the Tournament at Hockeyclub ‘s-Hertogenbosch today. The sun was doing its best to warm up the spectators that were looking at the teams on the field. This was necessary because the wind was blowing hard from the north and temperatures were around 13 degrees Celsius. The Dutch weather, we can’t stop talking about it over here in the Netherlands.
